Job Description: Principal Data Scientist, Fraud Management
Fidelity's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) is seeking an
experienced, highly motivated data scientist with a passion for
analyzing data in a variety of ways and applying innovative anomaly
detection techniques to combat fraud. The successful candidate will
work collaboratively with distributed teams to prototype, learn,
and quickly deliver data science solutions. The Team FIU strives to
protect Fidelity businesses, clients, customers, and reputation by
providing fraud management services, optimally balancing risk and
customer experience. The Fraud Prevention organization within FIU
deploys advanced AI/ML products inline in customer journeys to
combat fraud for enterprise-wide financial products and services,
working closely with business unit partners, vendors, fraud
detection, investigation, surveillance and technology teams.
Required Skills
- Education in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computational
Statistics, Machine Learning or Engineering with 4+ years proven
experience.
- Experience organizing large amounts of data from multiple data
sources, building predictive machine learning models and
establishing decision strategies that will help in identifying
fraudulent transactions.
- Experience developing supervised and semi-supervised machine
learning algorithms.
- Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques
(clustering, decision tree/random forest learning, artificial
neural networks, feature selection/reduction and parameter tuning)
and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
- Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts
(regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and
proper usage) and experience with applications.
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, SQL, Bash/Shell and
CLI, and tools such as DBT, SageMaker or TensorFlow.
- Experience building solutions across databases in heterogeneous
environment such as Oracle, Postgres, DB2, Snowflake, Databricks,
Cassandra, NoSQL, or data streaming platforms.
- Consistent track record of understanding relationship between
data and business objectives, developing mathematical models to
predict business outcomes, and determining cause and effect
relationships. Other Desired Skills

research, find answers to technical challenges, and learn new
techniques.
- Ability to translate sophisticated topics to non-technical

- Stay informed of fraud incidents daily, learning from Detection
and Surveillance team members, capturing and sharing new learnings
with the Prevention product team.
- Understand and articulate fraud data requirements and outline
high level integration designs to meet those requirements.
- Mine and analyze machine data, transaction history and
real-time events from multiple data sources to drive optimization
and improvement of fraud prevention strategies.
- Coordinate with team members to design and build fraud-specific
feature packages and real-time predictive models to reduce fraud
losses while optimizing customer experiences with minimal friction,
achieving measurable outcomes.
- Build systems and deploy models that can assemble and compute
real signals within milliseconds and at an event level to stay
ahead of attackers.
- Identify and integrate new data sources towards continuous
fraud model improvements.
- Develop model testing framework for performance and quality.
Prepare model governance documentation.
- Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model
